How Much Stuff Can You Fit on Your Scooter?
If you follow my blog, you may remember that I play a sort of game with my scooter… I get a charge out of seeing how much stuff I can haul on it. You see, my scoot IS my main vehicle. My hubby owns a smart car and a pickup truck, but I sold my personal vehicle ( a minivan left over from the days of hauling kids) when I left NJ in 2005. I haven’t owned a car of my own since… but I didn’t really need one, because I work from home. And in 2007, I took ownership of my mom’s Olds, which I used only rarely and ended up giving to my daughter when she fell on some hard times.
So, in the fall of 2007 I got my scooter, more because I fell in love with the idea of riding a scooter than because I needed a vehicle of my own. Still, I do love that I have my own wheels now that are only mine. :)
But I digress… so since I got the scoot, I’ve been using it to go everywhere I need to go, including many of my weekly grocery/pharmacy trips. I love that it is not just a fun mobile; it’s also a functional mobile as well.
Today I did it again… I hauled a week’s worth of groceries on and in my scooter! See?
How much stuff have you fit in/on your scooter?

Do you every worry about losing your stuff? I’m trying to use my scooter more to save gas and to be kinder to the environment, but I dare not carry that amount of stuff because I’m afraid it will fly off and into the road.
Hi Eileen… I don’t worry too much. When I carry stuff on the running board, I always tie the handles of my bags and then hook them over my bag hook on the dashboard. Then I straddle them with my feet for extra security.
For my basket on the rear rack, I bought a net that hooks over it. With that on, nothing can escape, but I do push stuff down so it’s not loose anyway.
I’ve never had a problem!
I drive a La Vita 150. The scooter only came with a rear rack, so storage was an issue at first. The problem was quickly resolved by mounting a cheap but free milk crate on the rear rack (the rectangular one, not one of those smaller cube shape crates). Balance is the key. I can put 10+ lbs of groceries in the rack, another 10+lbs on the floorboard and within my backpack. Yet, I think it is safer to distribute the load evenly throughout the scooter. It’s amazing how much a little scooter can haul…
