My Face Is Frozen… and Other Fun Stuff

I just got back from a short scooter ride to the bank to deposit a check. It’s a wonderfully sunny day here in Boise… the first whole day of full sun we’ve had in weeks… no lie. We have been living in gloom for so long, I’d almost forgotten what the sun looks like.
While much of the rest of the nation has been repeatedly buried in snowstorm after snowstorm, we here in the Rocky Mountains have had NO snow. I don’t think I’ve seen more than a flake or two of snow since early December… and I love snow. But since we’re not having snow, then I would much prefer the sun shine… at least a couple days a week. Too much to ask?
But, getting back to my ride… I’ve actually managed to get out on the scooter every 7 to 10 days throughout the winter, which is good for the scooter… and for me. It’s really been too cold for me to ride comfortably… even 50 degrees feels pretty cold when you’re in the open, with the wind blowing in your face. Today it was in the low 40s and that’s really frosty.
So I can’t say I’m totally enjoying these rides. But at least I am back on my two-wheeler. And to be perfectly honest, it keeps me from having to drive my husband’s pickup truck, which has never been comfortable for me. Now if I had a small car at my disposal, I might have kept the scooter in mothballs for the past 3 months! But, as it is, the scooter IS my main vehicle and so I ride…
How about my readers? Do you ride during the winter? If so, how much and how far? What do you do to keep from getting chilled? Please leave your comments…
C’mon spring! I long for those balmy scooter rides where you feel pleasantly warm air surrounding you and the birds singing and the bees buzzing… I guess I have spring fever.

My name is Kathi, and I created this website to share my love for motor scooters and scootin'. Thank you for visiting. I hope you'll take the time to explore not only this blog, but also the rest of my site. There's lots of info here! You can
I wish I could get out and ride, The temperatures have been in the twenties since December, or there’s been snow. Sun, what’s that? We’ve gone forever without it here in the Catskill Mountains of New York. Even now they’re calling for yet another snowstorm today, tonight and tomorrow. When it hasn’t been too cold, the roads have been a mess, wet and slushy. Spring can’t come soon enough. Talk about Seasonal Affective Disorder.
I guess I shouldn’t be complaining, hearing what you’ve been dealing with. :) But honestly, I’d love to have some snow. My daughter in Austin, Texas had snow yesterday! But here in Boise? Nada… Oh well, this too shall pass…
I was hoping to ride out to the State Beach here in Half Moon Bay where I work as a volunteer in the Information Center, but a good sized storm blew in from the South yesterday. So I waited for clearing and drove the car over only to find the Beach closed due to a tsunami warning. How DO YOU DO! It has faired off a bit here in the afternoon. I keep watching the skies out the window. If we get sun I’m going to crank it up and ride. Even a few minutes around the neighborhood or just down to the store will help my rider’s spirits. Since I dropped my motorcycle on a wet spot a few years ago I avoid wet roads. A fare weather warrior if you must, but I’m in it for the fun, not the danger. Hope you all are getting saddled up once in a while.
I share the same frustrations as Jim. In Ohio we’ve had snow on the ground for the whole month of February and sub freezing temps as well. I will do short rides at near freezing, I’ll wear heated gloves & a full face mask under my helmet as well as thermal everything. Snow, ice & black ice scare me though. Bring on Spring!!
I discovered Scootering about 2 years ago. It is my passion in life. I no longer own a car and live in Oklahoma so have all four seasons. Got a brand new scooter 11 days ago and now have over 1200 miles on it. Love it.
